Who is Bernard Bigot ? On July 31, 2003 Bernard Bigot was appointed by the French Council of Ministers as High Commissioner of the French Atomic Energy Commission. B. Bigot who succeeds René Pellat is the seventh high commissioner since Frederic Joliot-Curie first occupied this prestigious position when the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique was established in 1945. Since June 2002, Bigot had been the Cabinet Director of Ms Claudie Haigneré, the Minister for Research and New Technologies. Born in 1950, Bernard Bigot graduated from the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieure de Saint-Cloud. He holds advanced degrees in chemistry. He has been a professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, an institution he has himself directed from 2000 to 2003. He was also Director of the Research Institute for catalyze in the CNRS. Head of the Scientific and Technology Mission in 1993, then General Director for Research and Technology in the Research Ministry from 1996 to 1997. During that time Bernard Bigot was already a member of the Board of the French Atomic Energy Commission. The high commissioner is the top scientific authority of the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique.
